I am honored and pleased to be chosen to serve as the new Superintendent for the Willows Unified School District.During the first few weeks after taking the position, many asked if I knew what I was getting myself into. Having spent the last four years as the Principal of Willows High School, I felt that I was, and continue to be, in touch with many of the issues that the district and community must face in the next months and years to come. I was aware of the district's financial state, many of the personnel and facilities issues, as well as other issues and concerns that had been presented to our Willows Unified School District Board of Trustees and the former Superintendent; however, no one ever knows the full nature of the district they inherit as Superintendent until they work in the position for some time.Having stated that, I was confident that we could successfully address the challenges or I would not have accepted the position. Accordingly, much of my early efforts will involve leading the district in restoring its fiscal stability, bolstering the staff and public's confidence and trust in the district, as well as improving student achievement throughout all grade levels.
First of all, I want to state that the district has dedicated, competent, caring, compassionate, and hard-working administrators, teachers, and staff members that have expressed a desire to work together to re-establish the fiscal stability of the district. Their involvement and cooperation will be essential for bringing about the changes and solutions necessary so that the district is in the position to most effectively address the needs of our students and community. It will take all of the employees of the district working together to do so.
Secondly, as we begin a new era, it is important that we maintain our commitment to what's working for our students and to recognize the areas that require further review and adjustment. In order to do this with the greatest effectiveness, we will need to work together to reach the best resolution to the challenges we face and ensure that all involved are informed and clear on the course we set. Furthermore, the Willows Unified School Board is knowledgeable about what they need to expect and require of their Superintendent and management team. The Board expects the Superintendent and management team to make recommendations based on the data and the option/s that best address the district concerns.
Lastly, while I anticipate a very busy schedule throughout the year, I intend to remain available and approachable. Please feel free to come in or call me or your student's school if you have any questions or concerns.The Willows Unified School District is a good school district with a lot of positive attributes and a great community supporting it. Together, I know we can work to make our district even better.
